So: the country has farewelled the 43rd president with nary a backward glance, and welcomed the 44th with open arms, beaming smiles, and not a few tears. Of course, I'm not telling anyone anything new; I think the moment that occurred on Tuesday, 20th January 2009, around 12.05pm, Eastern Standard Time, was among the most watched in recent history (and in fact, for some proof of this, see this fabulous series of photographs from all over the world... and these are excellent too).
Unable to get to the steps of the Capitol, we celebrated at work in our own way: the ceremony projected onto a big screen, lots of red, white and blue, and cake! (See if you can guess which of the photos below was not taken by me...)
God Bless America!!

inHi - Andrew here - just letting you know that I'm reading.
The inauguration was pretty big over here too - interesting times... (in a good (not chinese proverb) way.
AH
did u make star decorations?
well, sort of - we bought the actual star shapes at an AMAZING shop called Teacher Heaven - if you ever visit me here we must go; they have all manner of stuff (definitely not just for teachers) - but I hung them up and did all the decorating, along with another girl called Connie :)
yes, Andrew - precisely :D
I think I will remember that distinction ;)
That cake is fabulous! I love seeing all your co-wokers and imaginaing all their different backgrounds and stories to tell; telling of how diverse actually America is! I don't think an election/inauguration has ever generated so much passion and fury and general noise over here either!
I know I would just love this if only I could see it. When will the photos return please...??
they're back! if you can't see them try refreshing the page...
