Update #2 - The Day of the Triffids

You can't really tell from the pictures, but there's actually a second crop in many of the seedling compartments, taking the space left empty when some of the fast-growers from the first round were planted out into the greenhouse - some of which are growing faster than some of the originals!

Greenhouse: cucumbers, squash, cilantro, rocket, dill, romas (France), romas (USA), grape tomatoes, borage.

Sprouted seedlings about to go into the greenhouse: Italian basil, Thai basil, sunflowers, morning glory

Other sprouted seedlings: carrots, lettuce, mint, thyme, chervil, anise, wormwood, parsley, chili, sweet pea, Chinese lanterns, black-eyed Susan, flax (but has all died so will try again with this one)

Still waiting for an appearance - Provence lavender, chives, sage, wisteria, chamomile, lovage, nasturtium (but don't think this one is going to grow because the seeds were quite old)

What an amazing array of seedlings! I DO hope they will survive in the garden this time. I LOVE your greenhouse. I had always imagined you having exactly that greenhouse - I had even planned to send you one at one stage. And it seems so strange to see your outdoor furniture on your own deck when it was for so long on ours!!

so far so good, mama! of course, we now have to come up with some actual garden space, as the cucumbers and squash are already outgrowing the greenhouse, but we've got our eye on some handy little raised bed kits you can get online... will let you know how that goes!
and yes, it's a great little greenhouse - got it on sale so was well pleased :)

"*smacks Mad Dad across the back of the head (lightly) and demands a pot of rice pudding in compensation*"Pot of rice. Check.

Transport to Houston. Check.

Refrigeration. Sorry, due to the world economic crisis, refrigeration budget has been re-deployed.

Result: Said rice pudding with some interesting additives in addition to the usual sultanas! (On the positive side, eating that rice should fix any invading swine flu!!)

As an alternative, I'll look into enjoying the Kathryn Hatfield-Bauchelle memorial 2009 pot of rice this next weekend, all the time thinking of you!! xxxxx (I may even take a photo!)

For all those readers out there avidly awaiting the news, here is the rice report:

The annual memorial Kathryn Hatfield Bauchelle (AMKHB) bowl of rice was consumed on Friday, about 1:30 pm EST.

However I must confess that the circumstances were somewhat problematic. We had run out of bread and butter, and needing my carbohydrate fix, I was faced with either journeying to the shops to buy bread, or find an alternative. Draining our remaining milk to the last drop, the AMKHB rice was thus prepared and partaken as an emergency anti starvation measure.

Now you can all rest easily, and KHB can feel commemorated and memorialised! : )
